On the first Saturday in May since 1994, hundreds of volunteers of all ages in Sun Valley, Ketchum, Hailey, and Bellevue have come together to clean up our cities, neighborhoods, and trails after the long winter.

In 2017, Clean Sweep falls on Saturday, May 6. Participation is free and easy. Meet at one of the following locations starting at 9am to register and pick up garbage bags and gloves. Complimentary breakfast snacks and coffee will be available.

  • ERC Office in Ketchum (471 Washington Ave, N)
  • KB’s in Hailey (121 N Main St)
  • Memorial Park in Bellevue (between Cedar and Elm)

Fan out to pick up trash in your chosen area until 11:30am and then come back together with fellow participants to celebrate your good work with a free lunch generously provided by KB’s. During lunch, there will be team and individual prizes as well as raffle drawings. If you’ve filled multiple bags and kept your eye out for any “Weirdest Items,” you or your team might win an award (costumes count too)! This event is family-friendly and youth and service group participation is encouraged.

In 2016, the ERC incorporated a dog waste pick up effort at ERC-sponsored trailheads and we will continue this effort this year. New to the event is a kick off of Blaine County’s new “Adopt-a-Road” program. The local NICA (National Interscholastic Cycling Association) Team and the Wood River Bike Coalition have “adopted” Croy Road. Finally, we are incorporating a business competition. Local businesses that participate in Clean Sweep will get one point for each member of their business team, one point for each member that is dressed up, and one point for each full bag of trash picked up. After the event, points will be tallied up valley-wide, and the winning business will be announced on Wednesday, May 10 and will be highlighted on the ERC’s website.

In addition to the ERC’s Clean Sweep event, on Friday, May 5 from 12pm-3pm, Cox Communications will again provide a free recycling event where community members can drop off small electronics (no TVs) and confidential documents for shredding at the Cox Solutions Store (340 Lewis Street, Ketchum).

2017 marks Clean Sweep’s 23rd year and is slated to be our best yet! Come celebrate the ERC’s longest running program while making a difference in making our community even more beautiful!
