In conjunction with the Wood River Land Trust and Sawtooth National Recreation Area, the ERC has successfully brought the Master Naturalist Program to the Wood River Valley four times. This program begins with a 43-hour training course, which provides participants with a broad background in the natural sciences including topics such as astronomy, botany, rangeland management, and snow science.
To certify as a Master Naturalist, participants must then give 40 hours of service to various non-profits and agencies in our valley. Our members have, among other projects, collected sagebrush seed for restoration projects, delivered environmental education programs at the symphony, and assisted researchers at bird banding stations. Chapter members gain new skills and knowledge while agencies increase their organizational capacity, making this a program that greatly benefits the entire community.
