Do not try to satisfy your vanity by teaching a great many things. Awaken people's curiosity. It is enough to open minds; do not overload them. Put there just a spark. If there is some good inflammable stuff, it will catch fire. Anatole FranceThe Environmental Resource Center is pleased to expand SAS! Science After School for the 2010-2011 school year! We will offer programs at all four elementary schools. Registration is open for all sessions of the program; you can register your child by calling our office at 208.726.4333. And good news – it’s FREE! We created SAS! to provide 4th and 5th graders opportunities beyond the school day for students to participate in project-based learning, within the context of natural science, the environment, and sustainability issues. We will be mindful of the BCSD curriculum standards for the two grade levels, and work to incorporate these, as appropriate, into the curriculum.  We will build opportunities for participants to explore science through games, art, journaling, observation, exploration, service learning, and scientific research. What parents had to say about the 2010 Pilot Program: "Our child has a strong spirit and love of nature in any realm. This program enabled her to tap into that spirit and grow from within all the while learning how to take tender care of our Mother Earth...we hate we are moving out of state and will miss SAS & ERC tremendously!! Thank you!!""J. looked forward to Wednesdays every week!" "I loved the web link - W. at times was not the best at remembering when he needed to bring things - well, he would but it was usually after the fact! Anyway, I loved the pictures and description of the events and it is a good way to communicate with parents." "Thank you so much for all of your hard work and time to teach our kids! The program was a delight."
