| Getting cars off the road, one bike at a time! The EPA grant for the Hailey Community Climate Challenge provides funds for a bike share program in Hailey. With a bike share program, people who don't own bikes, or would like to participate just for the sport of it, can subscribe to the program and grab a bike for a spin around the city. They park the bike when they're finished and it becomes available for other subscribers. The bike system under consideration – Social Bikes (Sobi) – uses bikes fitted with an electronic lock that is released through an application on your Smart Phone, computer, or by hand. GPS units track the bikes, so you can easily locate one nearby. The City of Hailey and Mountain Rides are working together on all the final details, but the bikes are expected to be available summer 2012. They are also exploring various incentive programs with local businesses to encourage their use. If you have thoughts or ideas, reach out to them at www.haileychallenge.org or www.mountainrides.org. |
