Another fun-filled session of Science After School (SAS) at Alturas Elementary School finished last week. Twelve excited and grateful students participated in the 6-week program. This session of SAS concentrated on winter tracking and each week of the program students learned a new method to identify animal tracks. They completed corresponding activities and projects to help master each method. During the final two weeks of the program, they put their new skills to the test and went snowshoeing to look for tracks and scat! We found deer, fox, hare and domestic dog prints in addition to lots of deer and domestic dog scat! Most participating students stated that going outside to learn was their favorite part of the program.

Science After School proves invaluable for many students who desire to continue learning and participating in activities after the school day – “I want to do Science After School because I have nothing to do at home also because it seemed fun and interesting. AND BECAUSE I LOVE DOING SCIENCE” – wrote one enthusiastic fourth grade participant.
