In 2019, EcoCamp, will enter its 14th year and is one of the ERC’s longest running youth programs. Each summer, the ERC offers two overnight EcoCamps: one for rising 5th-6th grade students and and one for rising 7th-9th grade students. Both of these camps take place at the Galena Lodge yurts, 23 miles north of Ketchum, sandwiched between the Boulder Mountains and Smoky Mountains. We are excited to offer children of this age the only week-long overnight, experiential learning camp in the valley.

2019 EcoCamp Dates:

July 15-19, 2019: Discovering Wild Idaho EcoCamp

  • Rising 5th & 6th graders

July 22-26, 2019: Environmental Leadership EcoCamp

  • Rising 7th-9th graders

EcoCamp Description

EcoCampers are fully immersed in our natural world exploring, and reveling with peers and mentors during one week of overnight camp. Activities include hiking, swimming, camping, games, crafts, and more!

In the Discovering Wild Idaho EcoCamp, participants engage in activities in the outdoor environment that foster a sense of place. Campers will learn naturalist and teamwork skills by the river, on the trails and under the stars with peers and mentors. In the Environmental Leadership EcoCamp, students are older and therefore take on more of a leadership role rather than being passive observers. They learn orienteering and backcountry skills, water and forest ecology, and practice the Leave No Trace principles, etc.  It is our hope that all campers gain confidence in the outdoors and a deeper understanding of our natural world and bring back their knowledge and passion to our community, sharing it with parents, friends, and younger students.

During both weeks, campers spend three nights in the yurts at Galena Lodge and one night camping or backpacking in the local mountains. These experiences in nature, disconnected from the pressures of technology, help develop lasting relationships and the next generation of environmental stewards.

In all of our camps, the ERC is helping to spark a life-long passion for science and creating the future caretakers of our planet.  We are excited for the year ahead as we continue this great benefit to our community and natural landscape.
